The Invisible Man

I'd like to give this 3.5 stars. It's longer-winded than it needs to be (particularly the first handful of chapters), but it's cleverly done and a lot creepier than I expected. It's also quite funny in parts (mostly the earlier parts). Not a diatribe against science and the evils of obsessive scientists, this is instead the story of an utter sociopath that figures out how to render himself invisible and then proceeds to terrorize England. Not quite Mr. Hyde nor Jack the Ripper, Griffin attacks, robs, abuses, and murders in fits of selfish rage, then seems completely insensible of having done anything wrong. One wonders if turning invisible also turned him into this person, or if he was that way from the start.
