I'd probably be wilder about it if I hadn't read People of the Book first. Sort of cringe-making at the beginning, when you know what that bolt of cloth is going to cause, and how, but none of the characters will ever know because it's the 17th C not the 19th. Luscious characters intelligently deployed. Nuanced, plausible critique of Puritan values/politics and their ground-level effects.
