really liked it

Quinn has been branded the Hester Prynne of her small military-focused town. She was caught kissing someone other than her boyfriend Carey shortly before he deploys to Afghanistan. Instead of defending herself, she takes the abuse and keeps everyone's secrets; including Blake the kissee accomplice and Carey's best friend, and more importantly - Carey's confession that he is gay. This could have been really trite, but somehow this title manages to never quite cross that line. Instead, this is a book about honor, military and otherwise, and the consequences of those choices. Admirably, Jackson also seamlessly weaves in the stories of George, a disable Vietnam vet befriended by Quinn, and the breakup of the marriage of Quinn's parents. Sometimes life is just complicated, and kudos to first time author Jackson for crafting such a sensitive, believable narrative.
