Read in January, 2009, read count: 1

Let me say right now, the writing is good.

It doesn't feel forced or too obvious. I can imagine all the minute word Mr. Shepard has poured into his characters and their stories, his feelings for them.

But that's my problem. I wasn't fully able to invest myself into the characters. The stories were good but felt too short for me; like I didn't have time to get to know the people who were telling us about their lives. And I think all this comes from the fact that I haven't read many short stories compared to full-length novels in my life.

Although, each new story did bring a stronger and more personal connection to the character and his/her plight, it wasn't enough for me.

I'll try to read it again later on, but for now I'll try to read other short stories book.
