I wanted to love this one…I really, really did. I mean, the time period, the location, the type of story…It all sounded so promising. So, naturally, I got my hopes up. While I did enjoy it, I wasn’t blown away by it or anything. I enjoyed the mystery part of the story, but it wasn’t as suspenseful and exciting as I was hoping it would be. I did like cast of characters. They were all very different from one another and quite interesting, I thought. I think my favorite of the bunch would be Rowley. His sarcasm had me laughing in several parts of the story. I liked the main character, Adelia, also. But I did get frustrated with how her dialogue was written during the romance scenes. I felt like this no nonsense, dry witted, call it like she sees it woman, was sudden turned into a silly, lovesick schoolgirl. To me, it didn’t jive with her character, or the tone of the story, for that matter. Even so, I think the guy she ends up with was a great match for her and there is some great story potential there. I definitely would like to read the other books in the series, especially as I’ve heard that they get better with each one.
