Hugo winning novel from Heinlein that is one of his more influential works.

Notable books it has influenced include Joe Haldeman's "The Forever War" and Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" (although Card denies ever having read "Starship Troopers").

One thing I really hate about Heinlein is his tendency to turn his characters' dialog into lectures about whatever his point view is on a topic. If I recall correctly it is in this novel he goes on and on about capital punishment for several pages. His thinly veiled lectures always detract from otherwise interesting stories.
