This is my third Dickens book and it is great. Just like most of the movie adaptations I've seen, Dicken's "...Carol" is a short moralizing Christmas tale about ghosts and repentance. It is so short in fact that the movies generally do justice to the original. I even like how most movies add a 20th century idea of excess to Scrooge's giving, where in the book he only gives Cratchit a turkey and a raise. While the turkey is still the biggest turkey ever, I like the idea of lots of presents, perhaps that's just me and my materialistic nature.
