I'm a little frustrated by this book. For the most part I really enjoyed The Steel Remains, but it just went too far. I have no problem with homosexuality, in fact it makes the main character of this book very interesting. However, I do have a problem when the author decides to feature very detailed, incredibly descriptive, hardcore gay male on alien (or inter-dimensional being) pornographic writing. There are two main sex scenes, one of which goes on for multiple pages of over the top very weird homosexual coupling. I've read a lot of books, and a decent amount of them featured sex of some sort, but this was more detailed than any of them. To put it another way, the gay sex featured in this book read like a jerk story you'd find on some anonymous web-site, not a published fantasy book. It added nothing to the book, in fact earlier in the novel the character had sex with some guy and the author didn't describe it at all, other than waking up the next morning. I feel like Morgan wrote the scene just to be edgy and hardcore, to rile the fantasy world up.

Other than that the book was well written, and the characters are very interesting. The action is very fast-paced and hard-hitting, not too gory but nicely detailed and scripted. I'd look forward to the sequel of this book, but I'd hate to be blindsided by any more scenes like the one I describe above. The whole inter-dimensional facet of this book and the god/magic system was a little convoluted, but it definitely has potential. I'm just not sure what to think about this book.
