Definitely a better developed book than the first of the Twilight saga. The plot ran quite smoothly from start to finish, without the feeling that things had been padded out with boring high school drama.
The characters were also fleshed out in more detail, and it was interesting to gain a better insight into the vampires as well as the werewolves.
Although my overall complaint, which is of Bella's Mary-Sueness, still stands, it was a lot less noticeable than in the first book.
It seems that Meyer's plot and character development have gotten better with practice. I'm curious to read the following books to see if she continues to surprise me.
