Highly disturbing, yet strangely compelling. Not as tightly written as a lot of McCarthy's more-recent stuff, this one is simultaneously interesting, viscerally-repellent, slow, floppily-plotted (not a lot happens, and in the end a lot of it feels like a waste of time), and beautifully written. Quite a maze of pros and cons. The subject matter, however, is so unsettling that I would recommend it only to those who desperately want to achieve a sort of McCarthy-completist status or to those who have a genuine interest in the utterly gruesome.
