Rather than a singular crime story, we're given 12 individual crimes or mysteries, all related to the 12 labours of Hercules. Poirot intends to take on these cases prior to retiring. Unfamiliar with Greek mythology, many of the connections to the original stories were lost on me. However, Ms. Christie does not disappoint with her gripping tales and wittiness, even if not all cases pertain to murder. Each story is self-contained, which means that others wishing to join you in reading don't have to start at the beginning or read through till the end to understand what's happening. A great bedtime read.
