Five stars for her sharp dialogue and sense of place (Portland); two stars for the ridiculous plot about the female serial killer who, for the FIFTH time, lures our hero detective into her evil web. The stories just get goofier with each iteration; the "Sweetheart Killer" is now so brilliantly evil that she makes Hannibal Lector look like a 12-year-old street mugger. I know she's got a money-making series here, but I wish Chelsea Cain would kill off the detective and the serial killer and start a new series based on the punky, funny reporter and her hippy mom.
