it was amazing

Having read a few reviews while I was still mid-way in Monica's book spoiled the "big reveal" (if you want to call it that)...and having said that, it didn't diminish how much I enjoyed reading her story.

And while I was tempted to give her 4-stars for the somewhat-misleading title (although "misleading" seems a little harsh), this, in fact, is NOT a story of a girl growing up in and around a funeral home (which, given my macabre fascination, is what I was expecting). But her writing is SO good and SO genuine that I loved her story nonetheless.

She's human. She makes some REALLY poor choices growing up(especially when it comes to her love life) and, for these reasons alone, as a guy, I felt empathy for her and, often, laughed out loud at her funny moments. She has wit. She has candor. She's vulnerable. And, ultimately, she's strong.

I'm so glad to have found her story.
