really liked it

I first read this book in high school French class, en francais, and the most memorable line was "il faut cultiver le jardin." (One must cultivate (his) garden.) I remember writing to my friend in Paris about it and she mentioned that line because she scored well on her exam that concerned this book (18/20- I even remember her grade).

I later found this copy with cover illustrated by Chris Ware (famous for graphic art and exhibited at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, MoCA, last year) and bought it on a whim. Thoroughly enjoyed it, laughed outright aloud, and I don't care if it's anachronistic; it's not hard to grasp Voltaire's satire of society.

The cover really made it better (although Chris Ware has a minor typo on one of the character's names): having the funny little illustration on the inside jacket was entertaining as a reading guide.
