Kiss of Steel is an intensely romantic and creative steampunk adventure from debut author Bec McMaster. Set in a Victorian England ruled by an aristocracy infected with blood-craving, a sort of half-vampire state, this is a new twist on vampire lore. The aristocracy does not become fully vampire until blood-lust takes over completely and they must be destroyed.

Honoria Todd lived among the aristocracy along with her siblings her entire life. Her father was searching for a cure for the vampire state under the patronage of Lord Vickers. When her father discovers nefarious experiments being done by Lord Vickers without his knowledge, he sends his family away and is murdered. With a price on Honoria's head along with her brother and sister, she flees into Whitechapel. Whitechapel is ruled by Blade, also infected with blood-craving though not an aristocrat. Blade has a fearsome reputation, but Honoria must submit to his protection in order to survive.

Kiss of Steel has a well constructed plot and vampire mythos. Her most outstanting characteristic is her family loyalty and devotion. She fights against her growing attraction to Blade and fears that she can't trust him. I enjoyed Kiss of Steel greatly and look forward to more books in the series. Thanks to Sourcebooks and netgalley for an advance look at a new series that I am sure will be successful. It kept me reading into the wee hours!
