The first YA book I've read in a while that I've been really excited about. It's an alternative universe with witches living alongside non-fae humans in a contemporary London. Witch-kind tend to be discriminated against due to unsavory activities of a few, and must be registered and wear bridles to keep their fae at bay. Has a Harry Potter-like feel but grittier and with none of the humor and lightness. It reminded me somewhat of the Curse Workers trilogy by Holly Black. It bogged down a bit in explanations of the different government entities which are used to control witches and there were too many characters to track. I definitely look forward to the next book. Some underage drinking and some violence.
