This was a very interesting look at a young midwife's experiences in the slums of London after World War II. She shares stories of all kinds of deliveries, from the perfectly normal to one that is fraught with such complications that both the mother and the baby are in jeopardy. We also get a glimpse of her life as she learns to be a midwife in the company of a group of nuns whose calling is to provide just these services to the poor. I quite enjoyed this and I think if you have any interest you should certainly pick it up. I hope this will make for a good discussion when my book club meets!
