The thing I'm liking so much about The Wicked Years series is that rather than featuring the same protagonist in each, Maguire chooses a different, equally feckless character, to follow. I have been compelled and disappointed in each one, wishing they would be better people (or Animals, in the case of A Lion Among Men. These characters are so flawed, their engagement with others and the world so halting, they serve as an incredible lesson that no matter how small anyone might think s/he is, our personal impact on the world ripples. If you've liked the first two books in this series, A Lion Among Men is an engaging addition. Based on the ending, I'm not sure who we'll follow next. How nice not to be able to predict!
