Told by a consultant to the Atlanta Police Department, this story centers around the time he spent assisting Detective Isabella Cherabino in the search for a serial killer. This consultant happens to be a strong, highly skilled Guild trained telepath. His precognitive skills (75% correct) though erratic are very good. For some reason Cherabino agreed to work with him. His presence in the department's interrogation room in general and Cherabino's cases specifically has greatly improved the case closure rates. And no one likes him. Oh sure, they use him but seriously, who wants to be around a telepathic expert? The Tech Wars, while long over, had left normals wary at best. The Guild had kicked him out after discovering his drug addiction. He knew he was lucky the APD had hired him but it was exhausting with all the distaste, dislike and fear around him, feelings he couldn't not know. Now that Cherabino has brought him to a murder scene, needing him to explore the surrounding Mindspace looking for any clue the killer may have left behind in this level, he realized he had a whole new problem. He had found strong signs of Guild involvement. This was so not good.

I had some trouble getting into this book, both story-wise and style-wise. I was looking for some deep back-story on the Tech Wars, the Guild, and I wasn't finding it. Maybe halfway through I quit looking for my original vague idea about what I thought should be there. I took what I was given and read the author's story. It all fell together and then I didn't want to put the book down. I am semi-patiently awaiting the next in this series - these will be the books that draw you back again and again to see what the author's Mindspace created next.
