I read this because I love Pat Conroy (have I mentioned that?). I wasn't crazy about it because a good bit of it came across (to me at least) as kind of pompous... lots of "casual" references to things that make Conroy seem very impressed with himself. I hope it isn't that way... because I think he is an amazing writer... and I'd like to think that he would also be an amazing person. There are parts -- the cookbook is set up in chapters that begin with a personal story/ history -- that seem very genuine and real. Those parts, I loved. I haven't tried any of the recipes, although I love to cook, but most sound incredible. Maybe one day...
