really liked it

I have loved Margo Lanagan's work - particularly her short stories in the award winning collections, Black Juice and Red Spikes. It was interesting that this novel started as a novella because I wondered if it had ever really grown into a novel. It felt to me, despite the ending which returns to the first character, that I was never quite reading a novel. The trajectory wasn't quite there for me. I felt, in the end, that I had read a number of stories that arose from the first story and spiralled a little around it, but never quite became a novel. Which didn't upset me in the slightest. It was still a terrific reading experience because Lanagan is such an assured writer.
