The People of Sparks is a great fictional story. It is the sequel to The City of Ember which is also excellent. At the end of The City of Ember, Lina and Doon had found the way out of the city. Now, in this book, they find a way to get the other 300 and some citizens of Ember out of the city as well. When everyone is above ground, they begin searching for other signs of life and somewhere to make their home. Eventually they find the people and city of Sparks. The people of Sparks decide to allow the Emberites to stay with them temporarily while they learn the skills needed to survive in their world. This causes many grumbles and a great deal of tension among both communities. The people of Sparks are the few people who survived the "disaster" and they are finally beginning to prosper on their own. Many people worry that they won't be able to have enough food to feed the Emberites and themseleves. Eventually food does get scarce and the people of Sparks are forced to limit the food they give to the Emberites if they're to survive. This enrages one Emberite in particular who tries to pull his people together against the people of Sparks. He eventually brings the two groups to the beginnings of war. In a dramatic ending though, finds both groups coming together and offers hope for both the people of Sparks and the people of Ember.
