I'm seeing a lot of reviews (including on the book jacket itself) that compare Quarantine to Hunger Games along with Lord of the Flies. Lord of the Flies I get, but it really reminds me more of Mazerunner than Hunger Games. Suitably creepy and violent, the book plays on the what-if scenarios: what if a high school with all the normal stereotypes was suddenly on its own? How would they interact with each other? I was disappointed that most people fell a little too neatly into their stereotypes - Skaters, Nerds, Jocks (Varsity), etc. and it was only if you weren't accepted in most cases that you went your own way. There were a few exceptions, but mostly they slotted in. But I suppose most people would if it meant the security of that group.

I didn't love it but it was definitely a page-turner, so for that I gave it 4 stars. And the ending was surprising enough that I'll probably keep an eye out for the sequel next summer.
