Chances are, if you're a history buff with liberal political leanings you'll really like this book. I really WANT to like this book, however, it frustrates me because as a historian I prefer my history books to at least make an attempt at the elusive and impossible goal of objectivity. The history in the book and the subject is truly interesting and it is well written and often humorous. However, the author's constant sarcasm, rooted in her own admittedly extreme leftist political views, tends to distract me from the history - particularly when those political views prevent her from examining alternative perspectives on the historical issues she's discussing. So... in reality, it's actually a pretty good book that if I didn't study history for a living and weren't so dedicated to my own centrist political views I would probably love.

RJ I didn't find this well-written either. Just a lot of rants and name-calling to the other side of the partisan divide. The idea of the book was okay, just not well executed.
