Mini-Review:

A book blogger (I believe it was Charlotte of Charlotte's Library) described this series as "catnip for 9 year olds" and I immediately had to check it out, since that is the kind of thing I am on the lookout for as a children's librarian.

It was totally as advertised, and I requested that our collections department buy it, which they did.

The writing isn't Great Literature, but is smoothly competent, and the plot opens up some good questions about friendship, war, and prophecy vs. free will. I wouldn't necessarily suggest it for the very sensitive reader, though, as there's a lot of fighting and characters do die.
