bookshelves: absolute-favorites, fiction-novels

This is a perfect example of exactly the kind of book and character that I love. The book is fairly short; it asserts itself but doesn't overstay. And the character is absolutely mad. I have learned many writing lessons from observing the way that Gardner handles the voice of Grendel. He shifts from maniacle to sincere using repitition like beats, always writing in a way that is FUN to read. Feverish is the word that comes to mind.
