** spoiler alert ** This murder mystery set in an English town is by the same woman who wrote "Woman in Black", one of my fave ghost stories. I gave it 4 stars because it's well written and the characters are beautifully developed. I couldn't put it down once I started it. But......

MAJOR Spoiler!!

I HATED the ending and felt completely betrayed when the central character who I had grown to love was KILLED! Yep, you root for her through the whole book, and then she's gone. I knew this was the first of a series, so I just knew she was going to have an ongoing story that I couldn't wait to follow...and then, she's dead! WTH! So, no, I probably won't read any more of these books which is a pity because I love the setting and the other characters. But if I can't trust the author not to kill off the people that I want to read about, then no, I'm not going to invest my time and effort.
