The Treachery of Beautiful Things

On the surface a beautiful and beautifully enjoyable old fashioned fairytale which not too far beneath its surface hides a very interesting examination of free-will. All the characters in this book are at the mercy of what they have been told is their destiny. Jenny herself runs the gamut of all the identities others would impose on her - lunatic, outsider, damsel in distress, virginal sacrifice, kitchen-maid-turned-queen etc etc - until finally choosing her own version of herself and fighting for what is she wants and wants to be.
A terrific read. I highly recommend it.
