This book ends without concluding much . . . which means even though it had only about 1/10th the fine writing Cornwell used to exhibit, I will have to read the next one, before deciding whether to give up on her for good or not.

The narrator's voice in theis book is odd, to say the least, and the crimes are horrific. The usual suspects are all present: Dr Kay, Lucy, Benton, Marino, Rose . . . but the relationships continue to deteriorate, and in some cases, so do the the characters themselves. And while this book does deliver a criminal, the end ties up nothing and leaves half the cast disappeared or at deaths door or at odds with everyone else.
