Okay, so I can't say this book is exactly stunning, but for anyone wno enjoys tales of ambitious, impoverished girls willing to do anything to get ahead in jolly old England, it's a fun little trifle. Although I must say, it gets pretty gritty at times, what with prostitution, pregnancies, abortions, thefts, murders, etc., but what's a girl to do? This is also fun if you really enjoy period costumes, as a lot of attention goes into describing the manner of dress due to the heroine's own obsession with clothing.
