Well, I think this book and its author have potential, but I also think some guidance might be useful. The story kind of meanders a bit along some different lines, it seems, and one plot thread is the one that got picked to be "resolved" in the end in tying up the book. I just think it could have used a little bit more focus.
I wasn't a big fan of the style. It's kind of Alice-in-Wonderland-quirky-lite, but not always. Again, it just didn't seem really beautifully consistent.
I feel bad giving it two stars, but giving three would mean I actually enjoyed it, even though I didn't *really* enjoy it, which would make me give four or five stars. But it says two stars means "it was OK," which I suppose it pretty much true. It took me a while to finish because I just kept interrupting to read and finish other books I enjoyed more, at least just a little more, in some cases. It is billed as being appropriate for young readers, and it mostly is, but there are a few comments made by characters that don't seem entirely consistent with that (a couple of toss-off comments about getting to enjoy sex after a wedding, basically, and so on); they were pretty innocuous, but they still didn't seem to be quite in line with what I'd put in a book aimed at readers age 10 and up.
