There is a love story element to this book, but I would venture to say that the major story line is unraveling the mystery and the secrets of the past in the found diary. The real story is in the diary. Emily is uncovering and learning the story as we the reader of the book are. I love a good story in a story and references to other the books- The Years of Grace is on my want to read list.
