Our Tempestuous Day: History Of Regency England
by Carolly Erickson
This book had some very interesting information to contrast with the glimmer and glitz of this time period put forward by Jane Austen novels as well as countless historical fiction novels.
The darker side of history is always something that I find very entertaining, especially during this period of time. The Prince Regent perpetuated extravagance and encouraged the aristocracy to do the same while the lower classes suffered for it. It was a time of boredom and pointlessness among humans.
The problem that I had with this book was the fact that it has NO organization. NONE. I don't know why the frak not, but it is practically unreadable. The book is divided up into numbered chapters and that is it. I think there should have been labeled chapters, sub-chapters with headings, and a concise table of contents.
The book was written well, it was engaging and entertaining, but it just felt like ramble. Subjects would be visited, left, and re visited later. I found it hard to enjoy the book with this huge lack of organization.
