I'm used to old fashioned moral stories; after all, I'm a huge fan of Enid Blyton. This one just took it too far, though. It's overly religious, but in a very specific way that I'm sure many Christians would find annoying as well. The terrible way that the African people who Anne grew up among are portrayed is extremely cringe-worthy and the extreme treatment of divorce is melodramatic bordering on hilarious.

Still, it's readable. Very much a part of its genre, but not at all a good example of it.
