This book follows two young college age women who live in California as they meet and fall in love with enlisted Marines who eventually serve in the current Middle East war. Current history and politics are included and Hopkins writes in her customary poetic style. Two of the main characters also write poems in the book and these are quite good. The grittiness of life in the military is fully exposed, for both those serving and those left behind waiting, showing in verse how PTS develops and manifests itself. This story will appeal to older teens who are Hopkins fans and those with ties to the military.
