The Demon's Bargain by Lisa Alder

Holy heck, where do I begin?

This novel was pretty sultry and hot from start to finish. I had started to read it on my Kobo, but the darn thing kept sending me to the author's blog, instead of letting me read the book, so I had to read it on the laptop. I learned that it's not SO bad to read on the laptop -- at least when it comes to novellas.

I loved this story and it was just what I was looking for. Sure, I wanted to read it before bed, but had to settle on cracking it open (or turning it on? clicking it open? what's the computer bookish lingo?), but it was hot, hot, hot from start to finish.

Of course, it's not just a crazy sexy "demon has sex with a young woman" kind of book, but there's an actual STORY going on. I loved the world that Lisa Alder created, with the Demons and the Fae -- and the humans stuck in the middle. The idea that the electronic age would fizzle and die, leaving humans to revert back to older times had me a little shaky (I *was* reading it on my laptop), but it made for a very interesting read.

And the characters! The main character it Vetis, the Demon of Corruption, and while you would think that all he would do is corrupt, he totally doesn't. He has FEELINGS! Then there's Amara, who seems to have been abused and neglected her entire life, so she doesn't know what true love is or what it means to actually be pleasured. To her, the whole idea of sex is just wrong -- something that's done TO you, rather than WITH someone. I LOVED that part of the story! And it totally helped that Amara's husband was such an ass -- it made me completely fall for the love story between Amara and Detis.

The other great thing was that even though Detis did want to have his way with Amara, he was ready to take his time and try to take away her bad associations with intercourse. It was definitely a slow and steady climb the whole novel. And the turnaround with Amara! AWESOME! I can only hope we see more of her in future reads.

This was a super quick read and it left me wanting more - MOAR! - of Lisa Alder's demon world. Oh, and that cover! Yum. How could I leave that out?
