I loved this book. I think the fact that I was able to read it completely over a few days on vacation helped with that. Cheryl Strayed (the story of this last name is in this book--a good insight into the author) writes beautifully and her revelations are both poignant and hilarious. As a young, twenty-something woman, she decides to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave to the Columbia River. Alone. She was "searching" for something to help ground her after the death of her mother and break-up of her marriage. It's more than that, of course, as she lets us in to her entire life--growing up, relationships, triumphs and tragedy. Her confidence and belief that this trip was what she needed to do was astounding to me. At times I couldn't believe how naive she was, but she learns from everything. And she keeps going when many would not Most touching to me is that she learns that the "lesson" from any experience may not present itself immediately. Have faith and wait for it.
I'm off in search of other books by Cheryl Strayed!
