Glimmer was a book about a girl, Elyse, with amnesia. She goes through the book piecing together who she is from the people she meets. At the start of the novel, she and a boy wake up naked in bed together with no idea of how they got there like that; as she goes through this process with the similarly amnesiac boy she woke up with, she realizes the town she's in has a problem and she sets out to figure it out. It is a coming of age story about a small town girl. This book would be great to use to get readers to broaden their perspective of just thinking of themselves to thinking of a community at large. Glimmer is a typical teenage girl romance book mixed in with some magic and ghosts. It would not have a large appeal to boys although this book is told from the point of view of the main boy and girl in alternating chapters; although, readers will be able to tell that this is a story mostly about Elyse and what her realizations as she recovers her memories. The book is sparsely sprinkled with some cuss words, slight objectification of women and men, and lastly some sexual scenes so it would only be recommended to more mature high schoolers.
