Nothing surprising for me here - I enjoyed yet another Iain Banks book, and didn't actually want it to end, and still feel as if I'm in Scotland having a pint. What is surprising about this particular Banks book, however, is that there's no incest, and a genuinely happy ending that works and made me smile! (Some good deaths, however).
What attracted me to the book was the story about an aging, reluctant rock star with tons of cash, and what kept me reading was the great (but easy and expected for Banks) way in which the backstory and present unfold together and in sync such that they conclude at the same time and with the same kind of energy. I can't recommend highly enough reading some more by this highlander.
