I enjoy Bill Bryson. I've wanted to read this book for years. However, it was a chore at times, and though I'm glad I read it and I wish I knew everything in it (my science knowledge is not a strong point) it was more like a well-written, fairly decent textbook versus an enjoyable read. I just hope I can manage to remember the few things from it that I want to, and I'll likely forget the rest. I was definitely struck by one of the last sentences, though, "It's an unnerving thought that we may be the living universe's supreme achievement and its worst nightmare simultaneously."
