it was ok
bookshelves: fantasy-sf
Read in November, 2008

I can't remember when I read this, but it was sometime within the last month.

The plot was ok. The story was ok. There wasn't anything particularly grabbing or nouveau about it except the behavior of bees, which I found quite interesting--Magical Fantasy as a genre needs to explore the hive mind more often instead of leaving it to their future kin, SF. But honestly, I'd assign that task to Patricia C. Wrede or Mercedes Lackey for their Victorian magic series--it would be especially curious to see the latter put bees in her Elemental Masters series.

Other than that, the book read like a grocery store dime novel. Pass it up and try Spindle's End instead.
