Wicked Burn by Beth Kery

Erotic Contemporary Romance Paperback - December 2, 2008

4 Stars

Beth Kery’s Wicked Burn is a story of Niall Chandler and Vic Savian, two characters that have been hurt by bad relationships, not looking to be involved in a new one, but still brought together through a chance meeting.

One evening, Niall is rescued from an over zealous date by next door neighbor Vic. This event sparks a physical connection with Vic that slowly grows into something more. While the development of their relationship is slow, the physical connection is explored to the maximum.

Kery really works the progress of the relationship and the mystery of Niall and Vic’s past well. The physical aspect of their relationship is hot and erotic, but the emotional aspect begins to crack the walls of each other’s past forcing both to allow access to what’s behind their imposing walls.

Neil is a suffering character and the unraveling of her past is painful and sad. One cannot help feeling sorry for her and at the same time, understanding why the connection she has with Vic is so important to her. Vic, on the other hand, has strong distrust issues and fears of becoming emotional invested in another relationship.

This is a story of harsh reality that explores difficult choices, heartbreaking loss and overwhelming odds. The characters are real and flawed.

Wicked Burn is sure to heat you up in this sizzling book. The two main characters meet and are immediately caught in a fiery relationship that will make you melt.

Niall Chandler and Vic Savian are apartment neighbors in a Chicago high rise. Vic finds Niall the fantasy woman of his dreams, but he knows from being burned in the past to stay far away from beautiful women. But when Vic hears Niall being assaulted by her date, he quickly comes to her aid. Niall is relieved to be rid of her groping date, but she is shocked to find that she doesn’t mind Vic moves. Niall has been attracted to Vic since she spotted him in their complex elevator. After her rescue, their spontaneous kiss leads to intense intimacy. Being with Vic has opened Niall’s eyes to a new world of sensual delight. She has never felt more natural or right being with another person. But Niall cannot let go of her past or reveal to Vic her haunting nightmares. When Vic discovers she is still married, he leaves her. Niall must let go of her past to make a future with Vic, the one person that has made her life real again.

Wicked Burn, is a fun and kinky erotic thrill that never lets up. Vic is one of the most carnal and dominant heroes I can remember. He allows Niall to explore her sensual side with sex scenes that literally burn up the pages. However, I struggled with Niall’s character toward the end of the book. She realizes too late how important Vic is to her and then does not aggressively pursue him. I wished Niall’s character had been more assertive. I know this was done to add tension to the story, but the situations didn’t seem realistic, and her past seemed tacked on. I would have enjoyed the book more if her tragic past had no involvement in the story. I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book, as well as the extremely hot sex scenes, but was dissatisfied by Niall’s passivity.
