John Connolly meets Jasper Fforde, sorta. Connolly is well-known as a horror writer, but this is a fun one.

Samuel Johnson is myopic and a nerd, but he did manage to save the world from demons once. And now one of them is out for revenge. Samuel and Boswell, his dachshund, get sucked through a portal to where the Infernals are, along with an ice cream truck and some evil elves, and two policemen.

Infernals may be demons, but they meet their match with this group. The elves are overjoyed to find some very good beer. Samuel finds a long-lost friend, and evil gets its comeuppance.
