After reading the first book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, One Grave at a Time, I knew I wanted to read everything in this series, starting with this prequel novella, Reckoning.
This novella doesn't really add more to the story -- it's a prequel after all -- but does give readers a glimpse into Bones's character, before he met Cat. We get a glimpse of his hitman life that we see a little bit in the first book of the series. I will say that I was a bit disappointed in the lack of sexy times in this novel ... I mean, it's 12 chapters long, so I expected something. *sigh*
I like that Bones is a thinker -- he doesn't just act, but he uses his FEELINGS to make a decision. Aw.
While I've only read one other book in this series, I can't say that I didn't hate this one -- obviously, the first book will remain my favourite (at least until I can read more!). This was a great addition to what I've read and I was drawn into the story immediately. Sure, there's the lack of Cat, which makes me sad, but there are plenty more books in the series where I get to see her fierce character -- as well as (hopefully) her sexy romps with Bones.
I wouldn't say that you should read this one before the first book of the series, but I think it's a book that can be read at any time during the series. But if you're a fan -- I'd say it's a must read.
