The whole time I was reading this, the Batman smilex scene kept popping in my head. Perhaps the authors were being a little too sensationalistic when presenting their home-brewed research, but the really scary thing is that no one knows what these chemicals are really doing, not the authors, not the large chemical companies, not any government regulatory agencies, NO ONE. Really highlights a shortcoming of a pure laissez-faire economy, even if people are perfectly rational who can perfectly make perfect decisions to perfectly maximize their self-interest, there is so much uncertainty on the effects of long-term exposure to these chemicals that it would still be a crapshoot.
