I learnt an important lesson thanks to this book: popular doesn't always mean good. Yes, it may be one of the biggest sellers of all time, but nonetheless THE DA VINCI CODE is an underwhelming thriller; it's often unbelievable, with unlikable characters and a silly chase storyline.

Dan Brown uses a string of cliches to hold the story together and his writing style is vapid and derivative. Yes, the historical and religious elements holding the book together are well researched and intriguing but good research doesn't necessarily mean a good book.

If it's any consolation for Brown, at least the book is better than the atrocious filmed version...
