This is a wonderfully sarcastic, witty, charming and lovely book written by a spunky Seattle woman's adventures on a intensely strange chicken farm in the wilderness of the Olympic mountains. I freaking love this book. Although it was written in the 40's, it has the sarcasm of Janet Evanovich books melted together with the romantic love of the Sound's natural beauty. I just bought it today, and have already read half. This is a serious must read for anyone who secretly dreams wandering into the woods and living the cabin life... or anyone who's got a sense of humor.
A word to the wise... This book is not the eye-rollings of a city girl as the 1947 movie portrays. While the movie is charming in the silver screen way, the character in the book is actually a plucky, funny woman who clumsily thrives despite herself. I dig it.
Also...she wrote the Mrs Pigglewiggle books. How could you go wrong?
