I found this trilogy when I was cleaning out my shelves this summer. I had NO desire to pick up where I left off, years ago, in the first book, but I hate sending books away without reading them, so I compromised and read the last one. I do not regret not reading more of the first two. It seems that things just went from bad to worse in the parts I didn't read, and nothing seems to have happened that couldn't be recounted in a paragraph in the final book. As a rule, there are few good or intelligent people, and almost nothing good happens to anyone. This is a harsh story of war and slavery and rape and murder and social hierarchies... I finished it because I wanted to know how bad it was in the end, but I didn't enjoy it. The ending did redeem the story a little, but then there is the next book in which I already know that the dragons hatch deformed and malfunctioning. No, thank you. I'm done.
