It took a while to warm up to this interesting and well-written mystery story of a working class "gel" in England. Lois Meade works as a cleaner in several houses in the village of Long Farnden. The local spinster, Gloria Hathaway, is brutally strangled. Through happenstance, questioning, and listening, Lois uncovers a lot of clues. When the life of the villagers intersects with that of her family, the action intensifies in realistic ways. Very good story and a great heroine!
