    <body><![CDATA[This is Starr's boiled-down version of his multi-book history of California and it reads like it. That is to say, it's very good and I'm glad I read it, but I'm left wanting to delve into some or all of the longer project. On the other hand, it's doubtful I ever will get to read that whole series, so I'm thankful for this condensed version. ]]></body>
